26 - 28 August 2019
The Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC), University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom
The Electrochem 2019 annual meeting is organised by the Electrochemistry, and Electroanalytical & Sensors Interest Groups of the RSC, and the Society of Chemistry & Industry (SCI). In 2019, we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Electrochem, and it will also include the 60th Corrosion Science Symposium, the annual meeting of the Institute of Corrosion (Corrosion Science Division).
The event will feature east Forum 2019 and the prize ceremony of the Schwäbisch Gmünd Prize for Young Scientists 2019 of the European Academy of Surface Technology (east).
The University of Strathclyde is located in Glasgow city center and is easily accessible by public transport. Glasgow is a vibrant and welcoming city bursting with character, personality and great experiences. The city has world-class attractions with something for everyone. Glasgow is a city for walking, and a stroll through the streets, lanes, parks and river walkways will take you on a journey through amazing heritage and architecture. east Forum 2018
San Sebastian, Spain
east forum 2018 was integrated in the conference SMT32 - the 32nd international conference on Surface Modification Technologies. The conference was hosted by the research institute CIDETEC with European Board Member Dr. Eva García-Lecina as one of the main organizers.
It was a successful conference with 112 presentations and more than 150 attendees from all over the world. See also www.smt32.org
One of the highlights in the programme was the prize ceremony for the Schwäbisch Gmünd Prize for Young Scientists which was awarded to Dr. Nhat Troung Nguyen, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. The award winner then gave an invited talk on fabrication of high-activity nano-porous gold particles on TiO2 nanotube arrays for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution.
The annual member meeting of east was held in connection to the conference. Every third year the executive board is elected and now it was time again. The European Board reelected the executive board and the board reappointed the sitting president, meaning that the executive board remains consisting of the following persons:
- Prof. Dr. Peter Leisner (president)
- Mr. Richard Arnold (vice president)
- Prof. Dr. Evangelia (Litsa) Pavlatou
- Dr. Wolfgang Hansal
- Dr. Andreas Zielonka

east Forum 2017
Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany
east Forum 2017 returned to the location of the east headquarters, Schwäbisch Gmünd. The conference entitled: “Present research and development in European surface technology” took place on the 7th April. The local organization committee was headed by Dr. Manfred Baumgärtner, fem.
The 80 attendees were welcomed by Mr. Alexander Groll from the town of Schwäbisch Gmünd, which is providing east important support.
The highlights of the programme were two prize ceremonies. The International EAST Prize was awarded to Professor Dr. P.L. Cavallotti, Politecnico di Milano, and the Schwäbisch Gmünd Prize for Young Scientists was awarded to Dr. Jin Zhang, Autonomous University of Barcelona.
Dr. S. Nineva, Umicore Galvanotechnik gave an invited talk on Post-treatment Process with Enhanced Technical Performance: Corrosion protection for Electrical Contacts.
About half of the talks were about electrochemical energy storage or energy conversion, covering specific subjects like synthesis of electrode material for supercapacitors, fuel cells, electrolysis and aluminium-air batteries. Another topic covered by several speakers covered alternatives to chromium plating from chromate containing electrolytes. Other topics covered were electrodeposition of manganese, zinc, tin, and finally copper from water containing deep eutectic solvents.
3-4 march 2016
east Forum 2016
This year east Forum 2016 was for the second time co-organised with the traditional Pulse Plating Seminar. It was the 7th Pulse Plating Seminar organised by Dr. Wolfgang Hansal, Hirtenberger Engineered Surfaces GmbH, in the vicinity of Vienna. This time it was located in the historical imperial Casino in Baden/Austria.
The combined event covered two full days with 26 presentations and an additional exhibition. The first day contained a broad spectrum of electroplating processes while the second day was fully dedicated pulse plating.
This successful event war attended by 75 scientists and industrialists representing 16 different countries and we are looking forward to the next Pulse Plating Symposium in 2018.
25-26 june 2015
east Forum 2015
The annual EAST Forum conference entitled “Progress in Functional and Sustainable Surface Technology”, took this year place in the historical university town of Lund in Sweden. The local organizing institutions were Jönköping University and SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden.
It was a successful event with 33 scientific presentations and more than 60 participants representing 15 European countries. EAST Forum 2015 did also host an exhibition showing equipment and examples of advanced processes and products.
The majority of the presentations were about electrochemical surface treatment, but also physical vapour deposition, ion implantation and sol-gel coating were represented. Corrosion protection of steel and light metal was an important theme discussed in many of the presentations at the conference.
The EAST Forum was followed by the annual EAST member meeting 2015 at which Prof. Dr. Peter Leisner was elected as new president of EAST following Prof. Dr. Luigi Pietro Cavallotti who had been president since 1989.
